[admin] authors' names revealed [29 Apr 2007|12:36pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

Okay, folks, author (and beta) names have started appearing on stories, so I want to say thank you all again for participating, and maybe we'll do it all again next year. I haven't decided yet.

Once again, I strongly encourage you to acknowledge your remixer, and also to answer your feedback.

Feel free to post your remixes far and wide now.

Thanks again for participating.

[admin] reminder of tomorrow's reveal [28 Apr 2007|09:15pm]
[ mood | mellow ]

Just a reminder:

Tomorrow at or after 12 noon Eastern Daylight Time, you should log into your sockpuppet and put your names on your stories, both in the headers and in the remix author tag. To be clear, when editing the remix author tag, please leave the "remix author:" in place, but substitute your name for the sockpuppet name, e.g., I would go from "remix author: ll_cool_cj" to "remix author: victoria p."

Thanks again for participating.

[admin] membership in the remix_redux community [23 Apr 2007|03:33pm]
A quick note:

Membership in the actual remix_redux community is limited to the moderators and the remix sockpuppets. Feel free to add the community to your flist, though after next week it will be inactive for a year, but no one else will be added as a member.

Thanks.

Remix/Redux V Archive Open for Business [22 Apr 2007|02:10pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, may I present to you:

The Archive is open. 325 stories in 77 (or so) fandoms from Alias to Yami no Matsuei, and many more in between.

The best way to navigate the community is via the tag list - you can find the remix of your story by finding your name in the original author list, and you can also navigate by fandom, pairing, and character.

Read. Love. Send feedback, even though the authors will remain anonymous until next Sunday, April 29th. Speculate on who remixed whom. Thank your remixer. Have fun and thank you all for participating.

To track comments on your story, please use the "track comments" feature of LJ.

If you feel the need to reply ASAP to your feedback, please do so anonymously, or via your sockpuppet LJ. We went through a lot of work to make this anonymous, and I don't want that blown the first day.

Thanks, guys! I hope you had fun!

Thank you especially to my fellow mods, who helped shoulder some of the burden this year:

amberlynne, devildoll, girlinthetrilby, laurificus, and mousapelli.

Thanks and love to all the pinch hitters, for helping out above and beyond the call of duty. I owe you guys, and I appreciate your willingness to help out more than you can ever know. I don't think I've forgotten anyone, but if I have, let me know. I apologize profusely.

devildoll, girl_wonder, marksykins, laurificus, mousapelli, ignipes, megthelegend, eilandesq, krabapple, ranalore, oxoniensis, callmesandy, gblvr, tartanshell, likeadeuce, inksheddings, florahart, nopejr, aillychan, zooey_glass04, zelost_mind, bironic, reddwarfer, rynne, zvi_likes_tv, lls_mutant, riko, sathinks, and shayheyred.

As you can see, a number of you are getting more than one remix, because, oh frabjous day, some of the original remixers came through in the end as well. Be happy. *g* I figured nobody'd mind having *more* fic to read. *g*

And again, remember to acknowledge your remixer ASAP!

Thanks again to amberlynne for the hot banner, and to mousapelli for the icons.

Thank you to dracofiend for providing the matching algorithm, and to tripoli and lonelywalker for helping me with the data entry.

Let me know if there are any glitches or thingies not working right, either here or via email at remix [at] illuminatedtext [dot] com.

[admin] notes on posting your stories [12 Apr 2007|09:29pm]
[ mood | busy ]

A few notes on posting:

  • Please do not post using the rich text editor. This adds in a ton of garbage code that is a bitch to edit and causes consternation amongst the folks you're sharing the account with.

  • If your sockpuppet is set to rich text mode, please set it back to HTML prior to pasting your story into the update window.

  • Please use the preview feature to check and make sure your story is coded properly. This includes proper use of an lj-cut tag.

  • Please come back in a little while - i.e., login as the sockpuppet again - to make sure that your formatting is correct. The mods are not responsible for fixing your coding errors. We have been approving stories pretty quickly, so you probably don't even need to wait more than fifteen or twenty minutes, unless you post sometime in the middle of the night EDT.

  • Please remember to tag your entries. Please follow the format laid out in my previous post: fandom: fandom, character: firstname lastname, character: firstname lastname, pairing: firstname lastname/firstname/lastname etc. Using first and last names may seem ridiculous to you, but when someone is searching for fic about Jack Sparrow, or Logan Echolls, or Sam Winchester, they do not want to be finding fic about Jack Bristow, Logan Huntzberger, or Sam Gamgee. Please include the leading "fandom" or "character" identifier, so that we can differentiate between Veronica Mars or Harry Potter the fandom v. Veronica Mars or Harry Potter the character, for example.

  • If there is a major formatting problem you cannot fix via editing, please do delete and repost your story.

  • If your story is longer than 10K words, you will likely need to split it into multiple LJ posts. Please put links to each part at the top and bottom of your post, for easy navigation.

Thanks.

[admin] sockpuppets and icons [25 Mar 2007|03:18pm]
[ mood | busy ]

All the Remix sockpuppets have been added to the remix_redux community, which is currently friendslocked and moderated.

Only remix mods and remix sockpuppets will be given membership in the remix_redux, so please don't try to join.

On the morning the archive goes live, I and the other mods will change the security level of each story so it becomes visible to the public. The archive will not open until everyone has a story. Don't be the person who holds that up.

mousapelli and I made some remix icons, based on the lovely graphic amberlynne made, for your use. One has been uploaded to each sock account as needed. Some of you have already uploaded your own sockpuppet icons, which is fabulous. Feel free to use icons you've made for the purpose of Remix, but 1. please remember you are sharing the account with 9 other people, so do not delete someone else's stuff, and 2. the icon cannot be recognizable as one of the icons you use on your own LJ or associated with you in any way.

A sample Remix story post template has been posted. Please follow it when posting your story.

Three weeks until stories are due! I hope you're all having fun. If you are planning to drop out, NOW IS THE TIME TO MENTION THAT.

Thanks!

sample fic entry: Strange Bedfellows (Rhapsody in Blue) [LA Confidential; Ed Exley/Bud White; adult] [25 Mar 2007|02:32pm]
[ mood | busy ]

This is the general template of how you should post your remix.

Subject line: Fic: Story Title (Remix Subtitle) [Fandom; characters or pairing; rating]

Title: Strange Bedfellows (Rhapsody in Blue)
Author: [this line should have your sockpuppet name listed, until the reveal]
Summary: He wonders again what the hell he was thinking, coming here.
Fandom: LA Confidential (movieverse)
Pairing: Ed Exley/Bud White [if your story does not have a pairing, you type: Character(s): Character 1, Character 2, as needed]
Rating: NC-17 [please use MPAA ratings for consistency. use your judgement on how your story should be rated.]
Disclaimer: Ellroy's, not mine
Original story: Strange Bedfellows by Saklani [please include a link to the original story, as well as the title and author]
Notes: [beta thanks etc. can be added in when you put your author name in after the reveal]

Collapse )

***

You will tag your fic as follows:

fandom: [fandom the fic is in, no abbreviations], character: [full character name] (tag for each main character of your story), pairing: [character 1/character 2 - please use the full names of each person in the pairing] (if there is more than one pairing, you tag for each), rating: [rating], original author: [name of person you've remixed], remix author: [lj sockpuppet name to be changed when author names are revealed]

if you've written a crossover, tag for each individual fandom, and also use crossover: [fandom 1/fandom 2, again, no abbreviations].

If your story does not contain a pairing, you do not need to use a pairing tag. Use only such tags as are applicable to your story.

Please set comments on your story post to "Don't Email." You should use the "Track" feature (as yourself, not your sock) to track when your story gets comments, because all email for the sockpuppets comes to the Remix gmail account, and you don't see it anyway.

After the author names are revealed on April 29, you may post your story in your own LJ and wherever else you like.

If you have any questions, please comment to this post.

Thanks.

[Admin] Remix/Redux V Assignment emails sent out [18 Feb 2007|12:32am]
[ mood | accomplished ]

All the assignment emails have been sent. If you have not received yours, please comment on this post, and I will resend it to you.

The email looks like this:

Welcome to Remix/Redux V: Bigger, Longer and Uncut. Just a few quick notes and reminders:

All stories are to be posted to remix_redux by 11:59 PM ET on April 14th. This is currently a closed community, and only the Remix sockpuppet LJs are allowed to join, so you will post your story using the sockpuppet account. More on that below.

Please use standard story headers in your story:

Subject line: Title (Funky Remix Subtitle) [Fandom; characters or pairings]
Title: Your title or the title of the original fic (Funky Remix Subtitle)
[Author: Your LJ Sockpuppet Name - on the day of the reveal (4/29), you will log in and replace the pseud with your real name]
Summary:
Rating:
Fandom:
Warnings: (if applicable)
Spoilers: (if applicable)
Title, Author and URL of original story:

You can keep the original title or make up one of your own, but if you don't have a Funky Remix Subtitle, I will be giving your story one, so be warned. If you do not provide a summary or a rating, I'll be contacting you to fill those lines in.

Please tag your story according to fandom, character, original author name, and your LJ Sockpuppet name; once author names are revealed, the mods will tag everything with actual remix author names. I will put up a sample story entry in the community.

Drabbles are fine for remixing, and everything but the safe story listed below is fair game, but there is a minimum word count of 1,000 words. Also, you do not have to remix in one of the fandoms you listed on your sign up form if something else takes your fancy; nor do you have to remix one of the stories in the fandom(s) your remixee listed. Remember, stories written for prior remixes are off-limits, with the exception of the Remus Remix, for the HP folks, since those were remixed from specially written drabbles (per the participants). If you wish to remix a story by your remixee that has been remixed in the past, that's not the preferred situation, but it's not against the rules either, unless they've listed it as their safe story. Respect the safe story.

Please remember that RPF is excluded from this challenge, so if you happen to match up with your remixee on an RPF fandom, please don't write in it. The story will not be accepted.

Please have your story betaed, if at all possible. We've set up an LJ community - remixers_lounge - for commiserating with your fellow participants, as well as asking for betas and offering beta services.

Since great pains have been taken to ensure anonymity when posting, please don't discuss who you've got etc. with anyone (especially not the person you're remixing), and please don't post your story anywhere until after the authors' names are revealed, which will take place on April 29th, at which time you'll log back in and put your name in the author line - the stories will go live on April 22nd, and be anonymous for a week.

Please do not change any of the personal information on the sockpuppet accounts. Each account will have approximately 10 users, and if you change the password, those other people will not be able to post using it. Abuse of the system will result in immediate banning from Remix and all future Remixes.

Here is your Remix/Redux assignment:

Name: victoria p. (LJ name: musesfool)
Email: victoria @ unfitforsociety.net
Location of stories: http://www.unfitforsociety.net/musesfool/sindex.htm
Safe story: Sometimes Salvation
Previous Remixes written: [list of remixes written]
Stories previously remixed: Best Laid Plans, Three Tequila, Coffee and Cigarettes, False Idols
Your LJ Sockpuppet Name: axl_rose_tyler
Your LJ Sockpuppet password: [password]

Please feel free to drop me a note if you have any questions. Thanks.

victoria

[admin] Remix/Redux V Signups Open [29 Jan 2007|10:15am]
[ mood | anxious ]

.:We Invented the Remix...Redux:.

Collapse )

What's this all about?
* Ever read a fic and think, wow, what a fascinating story, but if I had written it, I would have... Well, now here's your chance to do just that. Rewrite someone else's story, tell somebody else's tale. Take the work of another person and wrap it up in your vision and style, just like a remixer does to songs.

So just take another person's story and change everything?
* Yes and no. You can do whatever you like to the story - change POV, dialogue, mood, characterization, make it longer or shorter, whatever - except for three things: pairing(s), setting(s) (except in certain circumstances, see below), and the basic plotline.

Why can't I change ____?
* Basic plotline is fairly obvious, I think. If you change the plot, then you're really not writing the same story, right? This doesn't mean you can't change things, adding or deleting as you see fit. For example, if you were rewriting The Little Mermaid, you might decide to give the mermaid a best friend who's a fish and a guardian who's a lobster, things that weren't in the original story. But you would keep the sea witch and the fact that the mermaid loses her voice, because those are essential to the story. Of course, what are and aren't essential plot points is purely subjective (for example, in the original Little Mermaid, Ariel dies), but I trust people will be able to decide what to do.

* Pairing(s) must be kept as is. While this can certainly be argued, I think once you change who the story is about, you're pretty much writing a new story, and contrary to popular belief, that's not what this challenge is about. It's about reinterpreting a story that's already been told. So, no, you cannot change the pairing(s) in the story. We also do not want any slash pairings het-ified or het pairings slash-ified. You may, if you feel it necessary, background the pairing(s) and focus on less pairing-centric plot points.

* And with the settings, people may take non-AU stories and make them AUs only if the plot remains almost exactly the same.

All right. So then we can choose any story we want to rewrite?
* Not just any story. Each participant will be assigned a writer (who will be a fellow participant and chosen at random, but matched by fandom--every participant will have at least one fandom in common with their assigned remixee) and must choose a story from that writer. You can choose any story written by the person you are assigned except for whichever story they designate as their safe story (to be explained below) and stories that are nothing more than smut, nor remixes they've written in the past (if they participated in past remixes). Not that you can't choose a smutty story to rewrite, just not one that is one long sex scene. After all, where's the challenge in rewriting that?

Also, please note that there is no matching on pairing or genre (i.e., slash, het, or gen), so if you only write het, for example, or only write a particular pairing or character, etc., you probably don't want to sign up, because there is no guarantee you'll get someone who matches on those requirements.

And just in case it's not common sense, don't pick a series or story that's unfinished. It just causes bad feelings all around, which is something we are trying to avoid.

I'm still confused. We're just writing someone else's story?
* Rewriting. Don't just change a line here and there. Be creative. Have fun. Make a mess if you want. Remember, it's a challenge. Don't make it too easy on yourself. I've written about the process here, if that helps.

And these are only Harry Potter stories?
* Nope. This is a multifandom challenge, so everyone from BSG to Supernatural to Dr. Who fandom and beyond should join in. (Please note that this version is for FPF only. No RPF will be accepted. LotRPS and Popslash both run their own remix challenges.) If you've written in more than one fandom, so much the better. If you've only written in one fandom, you may ask to write in a new fandom, but must be willing to write in your current fandom. Actually, everyone must be willing to write in at least one of their written-in fandoms. Matching depends on how many people sign up, and what fandoms they're in. If you want to write in a more obscure fandom, make sure you bring two or three friends along who also write in that fandom, so you have something to remix.

So what the hell is a safe story?
* It's the one story that you don't want anyone messing with, for whatever reason. You only get one. You don't have to have one, only if you want. Any story you wrote for any past Remix challenge is also ineligible to be remixed again, as it is based in part at least on someone else's story, and may contain significant bits of that original story.

Do I have to have a website?
* Yes, because otherwise, how will we find your stories? You don't need your own website; hosted stories are fine as long as they're all on the same site. Stories posted to LiveJournal are okay as long as there is some sort of index or listing for them, making them easily accessible. Stories posted only to friends-only LJs or LJ communities, message boards and/or mailing lists are ineligible because access to those are often limited. If your stories are hosted on a password protected archive, you must provide the Remix mod with the password, and she will pass it on to the person you are assigned to (and then forget she ever knew it).

I've only written a few stories. Can I still play?
* As long as you have a minimum of five (5) stories of five hundred (500) words in one fandom (crossover fandoms may be included in this five), not including your safe stories or past remixes, and they're not drabbles or PWPs, then you can. Works in Progress are not acceptable.

What if I've co-written with someone?
* If you have someone you co-write with regularly and the two of you wish to sign up for the challenge together, you will be counted as one participant and only the stories you have written together are eligible. If you regularly co-write with someone but only one of you signs up, then your co-written stories are off-limits. The same goes if both of you sign up but separately.

Are there any sort of other requirements/rules?
* Each remix must have a minimum word count of 1,000 words. One thousand words in eight weeks is incredibly reasonable. Also, though drabbles don't meet the required word count as entries, you may remix a drabble if you so choose, by expanding upon it.

Are there any sort of deadlines?
* Why, yes, there are! People can sign up for the challenge until 11:59 PM EST February 10. [ETA] Sign-ups have been extended until 11:59 pm EST Monday, February 12. [/eta] Assignments will be handed out no later than February 17. And then the stories aren't due until 11:59 PM EST April 14. So you've got a lot of time.

When will the stories be put up?
* I would like to have them up by April 22, barring technical difficulties. This year, there will be a new method of posting stories, in which participants will post their stories to remix_redux via special anonymous remixer LJ accounts. More information on this process will be forthcoming in your assignment email.

Oh yeah? What if I miss the deadline? Then what're you gonna do?
* Well, I'm not going to hound you for the story, except that I totally am, and neither of us will enjoy it. But I'm not opening up the community until all the stories are posted. And when people ask me, "Hey, why aren't the stories up?", I'll point them to a public post in this LJ, which will have the names and email addresses of everyone who's late, and say, "Because of those people."

Plus, I have the scary poky stick. Fear me.

If you bailed last year without telling me, don't sign up again. I'll know.

That's kind of mean.
* Why, yes, yes it is.

How do I play?
* Please leave a comment here if you'd like to participate.

Please include:
* your preferred pseudonym and LJ name (if you have one; an LJ is not required to participate)
* your preferred contact email address
* the URL for your website or the index of your stories
* the fandom(s) in which you've written more than five (5) 500 word stories (excluding previous remixes you've written)
* the top three fandoms (if you've got more than one) in which you are most eager to write (you must list at least one fandom in which you've already written amongst these three) (and please, be specific, e.g., if you only write Buffy and not Angel, say so. Also, please spell out the names of your fandoms, e.g., if you use the abbreviation "SN," I will assume you are talking about Sports Night, not Supernatural, and neither of us will enjoy the drama that ensues if you are not)
* past fandoms in which you no longer write
* the name of your "safe story" if you've got one, and the name of the story(ies) you've written for past Remix challenges.
* are you willing to pinch hit (i.e., write a fill in story, usually on short notice, for someone who has defaulted on their assignment)?

For example, my sign up would look like this:
Your Name: victoria p. (musesfool)
Your email address: victoria @ unfitforsociety.net
Your website/fic index: http://www.unfitforsociety.net/musesfool/sindex.htm
Fandoms in which you've written more than five (5) 500 word stories: Firefly, Harry Potter, Ocean's 11, Supernatural
Top Three Fandoms you'd like to write in: Firefly, Supernatural, Harry Potter
Other fandoms I would write in: Ocean's Eleven, Buffy, Angel, West Wing, Sports Night, The Iliad, Homicide
Past fandoms in which you no longer write: X-Men Movieverse, Smallville
Safe Story: Sometimes Salvation
Remix(es) Written: Hair Shirt, I Drove All Night, Three Days, Clean (Live, Acoustic), Bittersweet Triumph, This Life Has Its Victories (But Its Defeats Tear So Viciously), etc.
Stories of yours remixed in past remixes: Best Laid Plans, Three Tequila, Coffee and Cigarettes, False Idols.
Pinch hit? Yes

I'll be in touch by February 17th with your assignment and more instructions.

Pinch Hitting
* Pinch hitters are the oft-unsung heroes of every ficathon. We adore pinch hit remixers, and are always happy to add you to the list. If you cannot participate due to not meeting the requirements or other ficathon commitments, but would be willing to get a frantic email and turn around a story in two or three days' time (or sometimes more, since some people are conscientious even in dropping out, and let me know early), please leave a comment to that effect, as well, listing the fandoms in which you are willing to pinch hit in. Please put "Pinch hitter" in the subject line of your comment, and please include a contact email so I can get hold of you when the time comes.

If you have any questions, please comment on this post.

Disclaimer: The management, meaning me, is not responsible for whatever is done to your story. If you can't handle the idea of someone else mucking around with your babies, don't sign up. If you do not sign up, your stories will not be remixed. The Remix is completely opt-in only, so please don't comment in a panic that you don't want your stories touched. Unless you sign up, you have nothing to fear from this challenge.

Acknowledgements: Thanks to Amberlynne for the banner, to Beth for giving me a mailbox and webspace to host the archive, to Bree for building the original database, to dracofiend and her husband for the matching algorithm which will make this so much easier to run, and to the originators of the popslash remix, who let me run with their idea. Layout stylesheet by apricot_13. Thanks also to my co-mods, amberlynne, devildoll, girlinthetrilby, laurificus, and mousapelli for their help and support.

Remix/Redux V: Changes and new rules and tentative timeline [05 Jan 2007|12:36pm]
[ mood | hopeful ]

There are going to be some changes this year, which will hopefully make things easier on me, which makes it more fun for everyone! Or something.

Anyway, change number one is that there will be an increase in the number of stories per fandom one needs to participate - as of this year, to participate, one will need five (5) stories of at least 500 words in at least one (1) fandom to participate.

Do not sign up if you cannot meet this requirement.

Change number two is that the minimum word count for remixes this year will be one thousand (1000) words. You will have eight weeks in which to write this remix, so do not sign up if you don’t feel you can produce one thousand words in eight weeks.

Change number three is that participants must be willing to write in at least one of their past fandoms. Last year, we added the "Will not write" category, which is great – I have past fandoms I want nothing to do with anymore, too – but we also had the problem of single-fandom folks who wanted to not write in their lone previously-written-in fandom, which made matching up hard to do, mostly because a lot of these single-fandom folks were in HP, which meant there were a lot of HP stories to remix but not quite as many people who wanted to remix them. I'm sure you can see why this is a problem.

So, when signing up, please choose one of your past fandoms as one of your three "would like to write" fandoms. As always, I try to give people what they ask for, but sometimes in matching, it doesn’t work out evenly, so everyone needs to be flexible and willing to write in a fandom that may not be their first choice. This goes for me as well, so don’t think I’m exempting myself.

You’ll still have the "will not write" option, and also the "will also write" option, so I have the best possible information when I start matching, but please remember that I do not have the yuletide matching algorithm at my disposal, and I do all matching by hand. So you will have at least one fandom in common with your assigned writer. In the past, I’ve tried to match up two or even three fandoms on occasion, but it made matching more difficult, and this is the year of making things easier.

I do not match by pairing or genre. If you only write slash, for example, I cannot guarantee you will get a remixee who only writes slash. So be aware that you are signing up for a challenge, and you may not get exactly what you expect.

Remember, if you are in a small or a really new fandom, you will have to recruit people who have written in that fandom to come with you, so that you will have someone to remix in your chosen fandom – the more people who are a match with you, the likelier it is you will get what you want.

Heroes, Studio 60, Friday Night Lights, and Torchwood people, I am looking at you.

Which brings me to change number four:

This year, there will be a Remix/Redux community on LJ, and you will be posting your own stories to the community. I will be creating a number of sockpuppet LJs (remixer1, remixer2, etc.) for people to use to post, so anonymity can be maintained. When you are ready to post, you will notify me, and I will send you a username and password to use.

The plan right now is to have people upload when they are done writing, and to have the stories waiting in the moderation queue – the exact logistics of this is still to be worked out – and then when the day comes to open the archive, the posts will all be approved. I have a team of mods to help out with this, so I don’t have to do it all alone.

What this means is that you will do your own editing and coding, and when the time comes, you will edit your story post to add your name.

It also means that feedback will be public, and can be tracked using the LJ tracking feature. Which should take care of a number of glitches in the feedback system over the years.

If anyone has suggestions about how to make this system work smoothly, feel free to comment. I’m pretty sure it should work, but it’s new for me, too, so... *crosses fingers*

Signups and informational updates will still be posted to this LJ for right now. I’ll notify you here should that change.

Here's the timeline as I envision it right now:

Signups: January 21 - February 3
Assignments sent out: by February 10
Stories due: April 7
Archive opens: April 15

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to comment here.

If you don’t know what the Remix/Redux is, or you need a refresher, here are last year’s rules and regulations. Keep in mind that the above changes have not yet been added, and the dates are different, etc. but this will give you a basic idea of what the Remix is.

[admin] All is revealed [02 Apr 2006|04:33pm]
Authors' names are now up at the archive, so feel free to brag about what you wrote, to post your story elsewhere, and to thank your feedbackers.

Thanks for participating! I hope you all had fun! And maybe we'll do it all again next year.

[Admin] Revelations tomorrow [02 Apr 2006|12:47am]
[ mood | tired ]

Just a reminder - tomorrow afternoon, the authors' names will be revealed, and you are then encouraged to answer all your feedback (and remember, it will look like this: "musesfool@livejournal.com" <musesfool@dime43.dizinc.com> when you hit "Reply To:" so you'll have to delete the dime43.dizinc.com address and use the one in quotes, or your reply won't reach the intended recipient) and post your story in your LJ, to your site, and to other appropriate places as you see fit.

Once again, I'd ask that people thank their remixers, if you haven't already, and if you've made a Remix Recs post (or you make one in the future), please link me here, as I'm collecting them here.

Thanks again for participating, and writing great stories.

I'll make the announcement here tomorrow when the names are visible, though I'm sure many of you will see it before I do. *g*

Remix/Redux IV: Archive Open [26 Mar 2006|01:20pm]
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, may I present to you:

The Archive is open. 325 stories in 55 (or so) fandoms from Alias to X-Men, and many more in between. This year we have poetry, play and graphic entries, as well.

Go. Read. Love. Send feedback, even though the authors will remain anonymous until oh, Sunday (I think). Speculate on who remixed whom. Thank your remixer. Have fun and thank you all for participating.

Speaking of feedback, you may want to add dime43.dizinc.com to your whitelist, and make an effort to check your bulkmail/spam folders once the archive is live, because that will be the address the mail comes from, and I don't want anyone to miss out on any feedback. Remix feedback comes with the words "Remix Feedback" in the subject line, to make it easy to spot.

I would also ask that you wait until the authors' names are revealed before replying to feedback. There's no point in going through all the trouble to make this an anonymous thing if people are going to blow their covers at the drop of a hat.

Thanks, guys! I hope you had fun!

Thank you especially to:

Diebin (tylergrrls) for making the whole database and feedback form thing work.

Bethy (girlinthetrilby) for hosting the remix at illuminatedtext.com and for helping with the uploading and other back-end drudgery that never gets any spotlight, and for listening to my bitching at all hours of the night.

Devil Doll devildoll for pinch hitting and helping with uploading and betaing my stories, and being the voice of reason, even when I didn't listen.

Mousapelli (mousapelli) for pinch hitting above and beyond the call, and betaing for me and for generally keeping me from killing anybody during this whole process.

Hossgal (leadensky) for betaing and pinch hitting and entertaining me on AIM when I was overwhelmed.

Luzdeestrellas (laurificus) for betaing for me and offering to use her hammer on bailers.

Thanks and love to Meg (megthelegend), Sam (copperbadge), Nestra (nestra), Laura Smith (romanticalgirl), Flora Hart (florahart), Lyra (lyra_sena), Marks (marksykins), k (callmesandy), Nope (nopejr), Livii (livii), James (zortified), Esinde Nayrall (red_squared), Lupinslittlesis (lls_mutant), Jengrrrl (jengrrrl), Sinope (eponis), Thistlerose (thistlerose), Reddwarfer (reddwarfer), Voleuse (voleuse), Cate (sheafrotherdon), Brigdh (brigdh), Nessa Owen (medicinal_mirth), Penknife (penknife), Netgirl (netgirl_y2k), Sionnain (sionnain), SA (sathinks), Inyron (inyron), FairestCat (fairestcat), Derry (derryderrydown), Isis (isiscolo), Celli (celli), and Livia Penn (liviapenn) for pinch hitting above and beyond the call of duty. I owe you guys, and I appreciate your willingness to help out more than you can ever know. I don't think I've forgotten anyone, but if I have, let me know. I apologize profusely.

As you can see, a number of you are getting more than one remix, because, oh frabjous day, some of the original remixers came through in the end as well. Be happy. *g* I figured nobody'd mind having *more* fic to read. *g*

And again, remember to acknowledge your remixer ASAP!

Thanks again to slodwick and loneraven for the hot banners.

Let me know if there are any glitches or thingies not working right, either here, over in musesfool, where I've crossposted this, or via email at remix [at] illuminatedtext [dot] com.

Folks who didn't get their stories in - if you want to send them in late, I'll upload them.

*collapses*

PS: The stories from three years ago are still available here. Eventually, they'll be uploaded into the database as well.

[admin] Feedback and spam [24 Mar 2006|12:06pm]
[ mood | busy ]

Thanks again to everyone who offered to pinch hit. I think I am in good shape now, though there may be some last minute fires to put out tonight and tomorrow, so you may get a last minute panicked email. Probably not, though.

***

I wanted to give you all a heads up ahead of time - the remix archive is set up with a feedback form so you can receive feedback while the stories are anonymous, and the feedback is sent via email, and it oftentimes gets caught in people's spam filters. We do not hold copies of these emails on the archive end, so that means feedback is lost in the ether somewhere, and I hate that that happens.

So if your ISP has a strict spamblocking policy, you may want to add dime43.dizinc.com to your whitelist, and make an effort to check your bulkmail/spam folders once the archive is live, because that will be the address the mail comes from, and I don't want anyone to miss out on any feedback.

I would also ask that you wait until the authors' names are revealed before replying to feedback. There's no point in going through all the trouble to make this an anonymous thing if people are going to blow their covers at the drop of a hat.

Thanks.

Desperate call for pinch hitters [22 Mar 2006|04:14pm]
[ mood | desperate ]

Normally I do this privately, via email, but there are so many pinch hitters needed right now (and I don't know how many more will be before it's over, as the late folks start to bail) that I'm throwing it wide open. [eta] You don't need to be participating already to pinch hit. [/eta]

If you say you can help out, be warned, you have to be willing to write *any* character or *any* pairing, slash, het, or gen.

You would have to be able to write a story of at least 500 words and have it to me by Saturday evening. I will, of course, be attempting one or two myself.

The fandoms possibilities are:

Alias
BtVS
DCU
Dr Who
Final Fantasy VII
Full Metal Alchemist
HP
BSG
LotR
Lost
Saiyuki
Smallville
SG1
SGA
Star Trek (various)
Utena
Veronica Mars
Yami no Matsuei
XMM
X-Men comics

If you are willing to step up to the plate, please leave a comment with your name (the one you signed up for remix with, so I know who you are) the fandom(s) you're willing to tackle and an email address where I can reach you.

I'll be screening all comments.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. I appreciate it.

[ETA] You guys are the bestest. *smooches* [/eta]

SON OF ETA I think I'm set now, but I will let you know if anything else arises. You guys RAWK!

*HUGS*

Archive Delay [21 Mar 2006|09:15am]
Due to the large number of people who requested extensions, as well as some dropouts, the Remix archive will open on Sunday the 26th instead of Saturday the 25th (barring technical difficulties).

Thanks for your patience.

T-24 hours and counting [19 Mar 2006|11:55pm]
[ mood | busy ]

Twenty-four hours left until the deadline!

Once again, if you are going to be late or if you are bailing, please let me know NOW.

Reminder! Three weeks left til deadline! [27 Feb 2006|11:42am]
Just a reminder: stories are due three weeks from today!

If you're planning on dropping out, NOW would be a good time to let me know. You won't even get hated on it if you do it now.

Thanks to all those folks who've already sent their stories in.
